My name is Steve Gladwin. I am a storyteller, writer, performer and teacher. I have worked with groups of all ages and have a lifetime love of story and myth. I have taught in three separate further education colleges and for Coleg Harlech WEA. I have run my own theatre and storyteller companies in both Bridgwater in Somerset and in Powys, as well as a series of bardic retreats in Shropshire, Sussex and Snowdonia and workshops in confidence and assertiveness.
My first book for young adults, The Seven was published by Pont Books in 2013 and the year after was short-listed for the Tir na N-og prize, where special praise was given to the way it deals with loss. My second book, The Raven’s Call – is a collaborative venture for adults, which also explores loss, change and especially bereavement through the old cycle of the year and seasons in a moving, uplifting and I hope therapeutic way. The work on the book has led to two further projects - a storytelling performance including many of the tales in the book called ‘From Raven’s Call to Swallows Flight’ and ‘Chasing the Sun’ – a developing series of workshops using the same ideas, for the mental health service.
I am also the co-author and story editor of the exciting new Fragon World series of stories which will help children aged 3-11 to get to grips with maths through the medium of storytelling and games.
My latest book is Swallow Tales, a simpler version of the ideas and themes in The Raven’s Call aimed at years 5 and 6 and their families. The book will include stories, questions and visualisations and explore a number of changes and losses pertinent to the younger reader.
After that - and in total contrast - comes Gods and Sods, a hugely irreverent and off beat collection of short stories about gods, spirits and deities in some truly outrageous situations. I have also recently completed both ‘The Eighth Gateway’ - the sequel to The Seven - and ‘Bess o’ Bedlam – my latest book for years 10-14 year olds about a professional Victorian mad girl.
I offer a series of workshops and services both for schools and adult groups. Please feel free to contact me direct here, or by e mailing me direct on firstname.lastname@example.org . You are also welcome to phone me on 01938 500728.
